Search Engine Marketing: Page Rank and Conversions Face Off!

Your success online is directly proportional to your search engine rankings. If your site is ranking well in the SERPs, visitors will surely follow. There is,mind you, a light at the end of the tunnel that’s not a train! Keep reading, brave soul, to get a better handle on what you’re really facing and how you can get the most out of your efforts.

Most internet marketers interested in SEM generally get the cart before the horse - They don’t realize that you can get great rankings with low and sometimes non-existent PR. I’m not saying that Page Rank is not good, I’m just saying that it should not be the only thing you focus on. Page Rank seems to have become some sort of Holy Grail as website owners have been led to believe that it’s the most critical aspect of their site. Understand that Page Rank is simply a measure of your site’s authority. It is not a measure of your bottom line.

If you want respectable rankings, be prepared to work for them. The approach may include trial and error on your part truly understand what methods do and do not work. Consider that neither all the Page Rank in the world nor the number one position in the SERPs will make visitors take action. Even if you spent a fortune on web development and design, that doesn’t mean your site will convert your traffic. The process of converting search engine traffic into opt-ins, buyers, followers or fans is the very essence of search engine marketing. This is precisely where the Clickbank Affiliate Loophole really shines. Somehow we’ve been led to believe that search is god and traffic is king. This is flat out wrong. Conversion is king. You can make any site rank. Not every site converts!

When developing your site, keyword research must come first. Not only is it going to drive your site’s design and content, it’s going to drive your site’s marketing scheme. How should we be spending our time and energy marketing? This is simple - We must build backlinks to our site. And when adding our backlinks, we need to use our keyphrases and keywords as anchor text whenever and wherever we can. As far as the search engines are concerned, one link is better than none. That means you should be placing links on sites and domains that may or may not have respectable Page Rank. If one is better than none, then just how many is best? The answer to that question is chiefly up to the competition you have in your market. The lower the competition, the fewer links you will need. Volume can’t make up for quality. And when I’m talking about quality, I’m talking about link quality as in anchor text as in your ever so carefully selected keywords and keyphrases. Coupling your keywords as anchor text will pretty much guarantee that you’ve got an effective link building campaign off the ground. Keywords or phrases that don’t speak to your market and you’re dead. Ineffective anchor text and you may as well be dead!
